Waking up: starting your engine

This morning I started my day in a different way. For the past month or so, I usually wake up and either go jogging (because I am prepping for the NYC marathon if I get picked) or practice yoga. I also sometimes enjoy waking up and writing or reading. The morning for me is the time to get ready for the rest of the day. By doing any of those things I listed, first thing in the morning, I am set, I am ready, and I enjoy the day so much more. Yet, so many people look at the day like a drag, or for some it’s even worse than that, for some it’s “another day to see what kind of bad luck I have today because this, that, or the other will probably not happen”. If you’re thinking in those ways, or even somewhere close to them, then you will definitely not see what you want happen. If you keep asking “How much longer until I actually find what I’m looking for” or “I wonder what kind of interesting turn of events will happen to me today” and you’re being pessimistic or cynical about the events that may come up, the events and the quality of the events and of the day, in general, are in direct reflection to what you think they are. If you think you are not going to meet that special someone in your life today, then you most likely will not. You have already set up a barrier to get you to what you really want to get to, but yet, you still want it! It’s insanity! If you change your patterns, and you start your day by making sure that you give yourself what you would give to anyone or anything else then simply put, when the opportunity comes up during the day or at some point in your life (because sometimes what you want may not show up immediately!) then you will be so much more ready for it. You’ll begin to say the right things, without thinking too much about it, you’ll begin to notice the special things about a situation or person, and overall, you will notice the power that you have in taking control of the day and where you want it to go.
When a football team goes into a game, they don’t just wake up and start the game just like that, they have to get ready for it, they prep for days, they even prep before the season begins, and if they go in there and either win or lose, at least, if they all gave it all they could as a team, and they really prepped up for it, and they all really put it all on the field, win or lose, they still won because they gave it their all. Now, you may be saying, “I’m not an athlete nor am I getting ready for any sporting events. I just go to work and I don’t need to get ready for it.” I agree, maybe you can just “auto-pilot” your job but what about the variables? The people at work, the people in your family, your friends, your other responsibilities, don’t they deserve the best of you, don’t you deserve the best of yourself so you can really enjoy and live life at the best level. What if you could walk into work and instead of doing the same monotonous work you do everyday, what if you could walk in, do your tasks, and now that you’ve given yourself the time in the morning to win the day, what if you could also start up a presentation to give to your boss on how to help the company save money or anything else that could give you that raise that you’ve been hoping for, or the promotion you’ve wanted for years, or freedom from thinking there is nothing else to work. Think about relating this to family or friends or even yourself, imagine, finding news ways to have fun, new planes to go to, different activities to do, taking someone special in your life to a special place, the possibilities are endless but there can also be an ending to them if you think there isn’t. If you think this is it, that where you are going with your life, what you are doing that it’s fine, that it’s ok to just keep on doing the same old things, but until when, until you get sick and tired and just give up by either quitting or just letting go of that image of where you want to be one day, what you want to be doing, who you want to be with. There’s plenty of ways to give up, and it may not happen today, or tomorrow, or next week, but if you don’t change or evolve and grow, the law of evolution simply states: if you don’t evolve, you die. You may not die physically but internally your dreams, hopes, desires will. Maybe you know someone who is still alive but dead within. And just as there are ways to just live but die inside, there are ways to live and stay alive within and in every way possible. Just as easily as you may think “I’m not destined to really get to this dream. I’m not going to make the money I want to make. I’m not going to meet the person I want to meet.” Sure, you might get this job, you might meet this person, you might make some money but is it really at the level you’ve desired? Is it at that point of waking up and feeling so happy that you’re next to the person you’ve always wanted? Are you amazed by the wealth you have in your life?
This ship of life, it’s a ship because you have control of where to steer it, it will keep going, it’s not stopping because life goes on, and you may hit a rock or iceberg and your ship might be sinking but does that mean you go down with the ship or clarify what hitting the rock or iceberg means. Maybe it means, to keep an eye out for where you’re going, maybe it’s a challenge to see if you’re willing to fix it even with the weight of the water pouring in and you’re trying to save it so you can stay afloat and move the ship forward. It all starts with you and what you really want for your life but starts with today, and what you want for today. Make this morning and every morning the base for your day, for your life, for what you intend on having in your life. If this sounds like a little too much and maybe even overwhelming to say “I’m going to start my morning by leaving my family, and my TV, and computer, and my video games all at home so I can go for walk?!” Is it too much to ask for some time for yourself? I mean real time for yourself, where you can feel each step you take or feel your breathing or maybe even just enjoy walking down and seeing the birds, ducks, and fish by the river, whatever it may be find what really gives you fulfillment, enjoyment, satisfaction, and happiness. Once you find that and do it, then everything else will fall right into place because you’re begun you’re day with power. You have started your generator to say “No matter what happens today, I will maintain my goals and dreams because I know the power I have to control where I go in my life.” By the morning to even go jogging, walking, or doing some form exercise you may even find so much more strength and power within you that may not have even realized was there. Don’t wait, I’m sure your TV, computer, friends, and family can wait because who doesn’t want to see the best of someone else?! And if you start your day right and you bring the best of yourself out, who knows who may follow you. In retrospect you will be leaving clues behind, to the success, happiness, and wealth you create!
