I dropped off some food for a very special person this past weekend, on the way back home I decided to stop at Guitar Center and see what they had. I had been shopping around for a while now. The other guitar stores I went to didn't really seem to have much. I really thought I was only going in to look around but there she was. I walked in straight to the acoustic room. There were a lot of guitars surrounding the room, I picked up and played maybe 5 or 6. I finally ended up with a guitar that was in my budget and that I had tried before, however, it's more superior sister guitar which was only a little higher in price was also clinging to me. I looked up and to the left and there she was. A beautiful sunburst design. I had always wanted a sunburst acoustic (at least better in color than the one I have at home in New York City). I gazed in awe and slowly lifted my hands to pick her up and try it out. I sat down and played what sounded like the perfect guitar for me. It was perfect.
Now, I am allowing all the music to come back to me. It's been well over a year since I played a guitar for a good amount of time. Last night, I was strumming away in the kitchen of the house I rent in. I have my next door roommate who is in his mid-20's and the owners of the house who are in their 60's and 70's. This formation of roommates couldn't be better. We all carry a great sense of humor, take pride in ourselves, and have a lot, a lot of respect for each other. So, as I was playing and getting familiar with the guitar once again, everyone came down at some point for something. My next door roomie had made some clam soup and left me some, the older female was moving around recycling, and the older male came down to wash dishes. Everyone quickly noticed the guitar and made a comment about it but it was only the older male, David, who is a professional artist who stayed to talk to me about the guitar.
It was a conversation in which the only way to put it is, vintage. We joked about art and how everyones is different, we talked about Jazz, Folk, Rock, Classical, and a few other music genres, I told him a little about my life background with my music and how it connects to me personally. All in all, it was an exchange of thoughts, feelings, and lessons shared between two artists who sometimes understand each other better than others will.
I have left Facebook for a while too. I hope to work on music for a while now. Music balances me, it puts me into a state of mind where I do not look around and go aimlessly wandering online for hours on end. I have found my little niche where I feel safe, grounded, and most of all happy. I will hopefully be able to post some of the music I am working on, on my blog. Stay tuned.
